In 2009 our partner YIARI established the first rescue centre for orangutans in West Borneo. Since then we have supported their efforts in rescuing over 250 orangutans. In West Java they also run the only slow loris rehabilitation centre in the world, where lorises are rescued from the cruel pet trade, cared for and, if possible, released back to the wild. In this same centre the YIARI team also rehabilitate rescued macaques, many of whom were kept in tiny laboratory cages or forced to dance for human entertainment.

With our partners, Wildlife SOS, we made history in 2009 and ended the 400 year old tradition of dancing bears in India. The rescued bears now live contentedly in our sanctuaries in India where they are given all the love and care they need. We have pledged to meet the costs of lifelong care for these bears and also support efforts to crack down on bear cub poaching.

In 2017 we were alerted to the shocking plights of brown bears across Armenia. Working with a local animal welfare group, FPWC, we began rescuing these abused and neglected animals and it’s our goal to eventually rescue them all!
Costa Rica

Howler Monkeys in Costa Rica are being electrocuted by uninsulated power lines and transformers. Often, infant howler monkeys are orphaned when their mothers are electrocuted; we provide round-the-clock treatment and lengthy rehabilitation before they are reintroduced to the forest.
