ADOPT AN ORANGUTAN TODAY!

Every orangutan at the centre in West Borneo has their own harrowing story. Some were kept as pets, others orphaned when their mothers were killed, and many arrived weak, injured, or traumatised. Through our partnership with YIARI, we provide each of them with a safe space to heal and grow, with expert veterinary care and the chance, one day, to hopefully return to the wild. But this journey takes years, and your support plays a vital role in every step.

By adopting an orangutan, you’re not only helping them to heal and grow but also supporting vital conservation work that safeguards their rainforest home. Join us in protecting these gentle creatures and their habitat - adopt an orangutan and become a part of their journey back to freedom.

Orangutan Adoption FAQs

  • Where does my money go I adopt an orangutan?

A virtual adoption is a symbolic way to support our orangutan rescue and rehabilitation work in Borneo. While your donation doesn’t go directly to one individual orangutan, it will go towards the orangutan sanctuary. It will help provide expert veterinary care, food, and long-term rehabilitation for all the orangutans at the centre, run by our partners YIARI. Your support helps give them the best possible chance of returning to the wild.

  • How often will I get updates on my adopted orangutan?

We aim to send out at least six updates a year on all our adoptable animals. Sometimes the rescue centres can get extremely busy, please do bear with us if you haven’t heard from your adoptable animal for a couple of months.

  • What does it mean to virtually adopt an orangutan?

A virtual adoption is a symbolic gesture of support. You won’t be taking an orangutan home (they belong in the forest!), but your contribution helps fund the expert care, food, medical treatment, enrichment, and rehabilitation of orangutans at the centre in Borneo. It’s a meaningful way to be part of their journey back to the wild.

  • Where is the orangutan I’m adopting being cared for?

All our adoptable orangutans are being looked after by our partners, YIARI, at the rescue and rehabilitation centre in West Borneo.

  • Can I visit the orangutan I adopt?

No. The majority of the orangutans at the centre are being rehabilitated for eventual release into the wild and it’s crucial they don’t become habituated to humans. Keeping their environment calm, safe, and as natural as possible is essential for their future freedom.

  • Can I give an adoption as a gift?

Yes, absolutely. Orangutan adoptions make wonderful, ethical gifts for animal lovers of all ages.
