Help Bears Like Digit This Christmas
Intro
Twenty-five years ago, Alan Knight travelled to India to meet Kartick and Geeta from Wildlife SOS. Nothing prepared him for the horror of seeing bears forced to ‘dance’ on the streets - beaten and abused for profit. Together, we vowed to end this cruel trade. On Christmas Eve 2002, we welcomed the first rescued bears into the Agra Bear Sanctuary. Seven years later, almost to the day, the last dancing bear, Raju, was finally freed.
Among those rescued was Digit. As a tiny cub, he was torn from the wild after his mother was killed, then tortured to make him perform. A rope was forced through his muzzle so that every pull sent searing pain across his face. When we rescued him in 2010, he was just five months old - frail, terrified, and suffering.
With patient care and kindness, Digit slowly began to trust again.
Fifteen years later, he is healthy, energetic, and cheeky with his caregivers - a true testament to love’s power to heal. But many bears like Digit still depend on us for lifelong care.
Your donation will help provide food, veterinary care, and enrichment for rescued bears - giving them the comfort, safety, and joy they deserve. At our sanctuaries, dedicated teams of vets and caregivers know each bear’s habits and needs, ensuring every one receives expert, compassionate care.
Thank you for helping give these bears a future free from fear and pain. Your kindness makes all the difference - this Christmas, and always.
